The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Hector Rondon from the 15-day disabled list, recalled right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton, outfielder Albert Almora Jr. and infielder Munenori Kawasaki from Triple-A Iowa, and selected the contract of catcher Tim Federowicz (uniform number 19) from Iowa.

To make room for Federowicz on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez has been designated for assignment. Chicago’s active roster now stands at 34 players.

All five players will be available for the Cubs tonight when they continue their three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Rondon, 28, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right triceps strain on August 19 (retroactive to August 17). He is 2-3 with five holds, 18 saves and a 2.47 ERA (12 ER/43.2 IP) in 45 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. Rondon did not require a rehab assignment as part of his return.

Patton, 28, is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA (9 ER/17.1 IP) in 12 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. He went 1-0 with 11 saves and a 0.75 ERA (3 ER/36.0 IP) in 35 relief outings with Iowa this year. He struck out 59 in 36.0 innings, good for an average of 14.8 strikeouts per nine innings while posting a 1.00 WHIP.

Almora Jr., 22, returns for his second stint with the Cubs after batting .265 (22-for-83) with seven doubles, two homers and nine RBI in 34 games for the Cubs this year. He has seen time at all three outfield positions, playing 25 games (14 starts) in center field while making two starts in left field and one start in right field. With Iowa this season, Almora Jr. batted .303 (97-for-320) with 18 doubles, three triples, four homers and 43 RBI in 80 games.

Kawasaki, 35, batted .255 (80-for-314) with 11 doubles, two triples, one home run, 39 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 102 games with Iowa this season. He had two brief stints in the big leagues with the Cubs earlier this year, going 1-for-3 (.333) in three games.

Federowicz, 29, returns for his second stint with the Cubs after batting .192 (5-for-26) with two RBI in 13 games with the Cubs earlier this season. With Iowa, he batted .293 (67-for-229) with 12 doubles, eight homers, 39 RBI and an .802 OPS in 65 games.

Alvarez, 25, went 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA (20 ER/23.1 IP) in 20 relief appearances with Double-A Tennessee this season. He was claimed off waivers from Oakland on June 12.
