Former Chicago Bears head coach Dick Jauron has passed away at the age of 74.

The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs first reported the news.

Jauron was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2001, leading one of the most memorable and exciting Bears teams that finished with a 13-3 record. He was also the head coach of the Lions and Bills during his coaching stints in the NFL.

While in the NFL as a player in eight years, he recorded 25 interceptions and scored two touchdowns. He was a fourth round pick by the Lions in the 1973 NFL Draft.

During his playing days at Yale, he rushed for a school-record 2,947 yards and was a three-time All-Ivy League first-team selection.

BearsHQ extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

This has been a tough week with also the passing of 102-year-old Virginia Halas McCaskey.
