Cubs call up Carl Edwards Jr., option reliever |
The Chicago Cubs have been rolling as of late in the back end of their bullpen.
They will try to further bolster their reliever core with the addition of Carl Edwards Jr. from Triple-A Iowa on Monday and have optioned Dillon Maples to make room on the major league roster. Maples had no record in three scoreless appearances (2.2 IP, 5 BB, 6 SO) this year. Edwards, Jr., 27, has allowed six earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched (32.40 ERA) in four relief outings this year. He is 8-8 with two saves and 3.36 ERA (60 ER/160.2 IP) in 176 relief outings covering four major league seasons with the Cubs (2016-19). In seven minor league appearances, he went 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA with seven strikeouts in seven relief appearances.
