Cubs announce pitching rotation for regular season |
The Chicago Cubs should have a formidable pitching staff if the team can keep all the veterans healthy.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced the starter's pitching schedule for the regular season as Jon Lester will get Thursday's Opening Day start against the Texas Rangers, followed by Yu Darvish (Saturday vs. Rangers), then Cole Hamels (Sunday vs. Rangers), Kyle Hendricks (Monday vs. Braves), and Jose Quintana pitching Wednesday against the Braves. Darvish starting on Saturday is on the assumption that his blister is completely healed up. The Cubs feel that his blister will be OK and that he will be able to compete against his former team this week. If all goes well, that is a solid group as most teams would love to have Quintana as their No. 5 starter. Obviously, if one of these veterans has some injuries during the season, the Cubs still have experienced starters Tyler Chatwood and Mike Montgomery waiting their time for some spot starts. .@JLester34 - Opening Day@faridyu - Saturday (on @NBCSChicago+)@ColeHamels - Sunday@kylehendricks28 and @jose_quintana24 to follow in ATL. 14 All-Star appearances combined and ready to roll! pic.twitter.com/6XTBRJxF24
