Report: Bears attend private workout for linebacker Andre Jones |
The Chicago Bears are doing their homework on NFL draft prospect Andre Jones, attending his private workout on Thursday and planning a Zoom meeting with him, according to multiple reports, including reporter Daniel Greenberg.
Jones, an outside linebacker and pass rusher from Louisiana Lafayette, had an impressive season last year, accumulating 7.5 sacks which was fifth-best in the Sun Belt conference, and 51 tackles. For those efforts, he was named second-team all-conference. According to Pro Football Focus, he pressured the quarterback 32 times with 20 hurries. In 2021, he had 9.5 TFLs and six sacks. Despite suffering an injury during the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, Jones is still considered a promising prospect due to his versatility and athleticism. Jones has played various roles in college, including as an interior defensive lineman and dropping back into coverage, making him an intriguing prospect for NFL teams. Jones has been projected to be drafted as early as the sixth round, but others predict he may go in the seventh round or even go undrafted. However, regardless of where he ends up, Jones has the tools to fit in with various defensive systems. It will be interesting to see which team takes a chance on him and how he develops in the NFL. Andre Jones was a linebacker at Louisiana and still logged 6+ sacks over the last two years.
