Bears News: Eberflus on signing of QB Tyson Bagent |
The Chicago Bears signed Shepherd quarterback Tyson Bagent to a priority undrafted free-agent deal recently.
At Division II Shepherd (Shepherdstown, West Virginia), Bagent completed 400 passes on 572 attempts with 4,580 passing yards and 41 touchdowns last season. In 2021, he threw for 5,000 yards and had 53 touchdowns and won the Harlon Hill Trophy which goes to the Division II national player of the year. For his career, the 6-foot-3 and 210-pound gunslinger had 17,034 yards and threw for 159 touchdowns and 48 interceptions. Bear head coach Matt Eberflus was asked during his recent media availability about his early impressions of Bagent. "That's why we bring him here, right?" Eberflus said. "We see him operate, we see what he does in the walkthroughs, see what he does in the individual and the team periods and then really just evaluate the guy." Eberflus doesn't care if the player comes from a small school undrafted or a draft pick from a powerhouse like Alabama once he gets them at Halas Hall. "We really don't care where they're from now," Eberflus said. "They're here. It doesn't matter to us whether they're a tryout guy or a guy that we've signed, an undrafted free agent. That doesn't matter." At the Senior Bowl, he was impressive, completing 17-of-22 passes for 138 yards. He also had a very high RAS score of 9.01 at the 2023 NFL combine, which indicates solid potential. QB Tyson Bagent dropped it in the bucket. Tyson Bagent is a QB prospect in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 9.01 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 92 out of 916 QB from 1987 to 2023. #Bears https://t.co/QPOsArsDcz pic.twitter.com/4jQPurvZKH
