Bears News: Darnell Mooney on his play in 2023: "I'm just disrespecting everybody now" |
Last season was undoubtedly a challenging one for the Chicago Bears' passing game.
However, Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney is approaching the upcoming 2023 season with unwavering confidence and determination. Despite a less-than-stellar performance in 2022, Mooney is eagerly looking forward to making a bold statement on the field and is unapologetically dismissing the idea of earning respect. Instead, he aims to dominate and lead his team to victory. In a recent appearance on The 33rd Team podcast with fellow NFL wide receivers Amon-Ra and teammate Equanimeous St. Brown, Mooney did not hold back in expressing his mindset for the upcoming season. When asked about his goals, Mooney confidently proclaimed, "Do whatever I can do for my team, or whatever. I mean ball out, of course. Dominate. Not really on the 'respect my name' anymore. I'm just disrespecting everybody now. I don't really care about respect no more. Other than that, I just want to win. I don't really care about anything else, for real." Mooney's resolve to take the league by storm is fueled by the disappointments of the previous season. In 2022, he finished with a career-low 493 receiving yards in 12 games and endured a setback with an injured ankle that sidelined him for a portion of the season. Understandably, Mooney is hungry for redemption and eager to contribute to a more robust passing game, particularly with the arrival of new weapon DJ Moore. As the Bears seek to expand their passing game, Mooney aims to play a pivotal role in elevating the team's overall performance. Mooney is poised to bounce back from the challenges of the previous season and showcase his abilities as a standout receiver in the NFL.
