by - Senior Editor -

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Koji Uehara has agreed to a one-year contract with the Yomiuri Giants for $1.87 million on Friday.

The 42-year old wanted to play one more year in the majors but instead will get to play for his former Japanese team where he starred from 1998 to 2008.

In 2017 with the Cubs, he had a 3.98 ERA in 49 games with two saves, 50 strikeouts, and impressive 1.16 WHIP. However, he didn't appear in the postseason and was not re-signed after the season.

Other MLB teams that he has played for include Boston, Baltimore, and Texas.

For his standout major league career, he had a 2.66 ERA with 95 saves, 572 strikeouts, and 0.89 WHIP.
