Cubs prospect Nelson Velazquez named AFL MVP |
Big news for the future of the Northsiders.
Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Nelson Velazquez was named the Arizona Fall League MVP before Saturday's championship game. The last Cubs prospect to win this prestigious award was Kris Bryant in 2013. "It means everything," Velazquez said via MLB.com. "I feel really happy, very proud of myself. I thank my coaches, my teammates, and my trainer for everything I've been doing in the Fall League. They helped me all the time. It was a good time with them." Velazquez has batted .385 with nine homers, 24 RBIs, and OPS of 1.191. He hit .270 with 20 homers and 73 RBIs in 103 games this season, splitting time with South Bend and Tennessee.
