Bears News: Nico Hoerner leaves game with apparent injury |
This is not good news today.
Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner was making a rehab start for South Bend on Sunday afternoon and in the middle of his first at-bat (1-0 checkswing) exited the ballgame with an apparent injury. He had been sidelined on the 10-day injured list since July 29 with a right oblique injury. Hopefully, this is just precautionary, and he didn't re-injure himself. However, it's usually never a good sign when a ballplayer can't finish his at-bat. The Cubs were going to pencil him in at shortstop next week for the rest of the season, but it appears all of that is currently up in the air. No official word yet on any injury information from the Cubs. For his young MLB career, he is batting .275 with three homers and 44 RBIs. Update: Cubs officials say that he felt his right oblique so left the game out of precaution. They will assess the injury more in-depth tomorrow. Here is the swing. Slider gets him swinging over the top.
