Cubs place Tommy Nance on IL, activate pitcher |
ST. LOUIS – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Tommy Nance on the injured list and selected right-handed pitcher Joe Biagini from Triple-A Iowa.
Biagini, 31, will wear number 41 and is looking to make his Cubs debut during tonight’s 6:15 p.m. game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. He is 3-8 with a 5.50 ERA (56 ER/91.2 IP) in 22 games (19 starts) for Iowa this season, walking 43 and striking out 85, after signing a minor league deal with the organization this past offseason. The six-foot five-inch Biagini has pitched in all or part of five major league seasons with the Blue Jays (2016-19) and Astros (2019-20), pitching to a 14-25 record with three saves and a 5.07 ERA (185 ER/328.1 IP) in 221 games (22 starts) with 115 walks and 276 strikeouts. He pitched in a career-high 63 games between Toronto and Houston in 2019 with a 4.59 ERA (33 ER/64.2 IP), 26 walks and 60 strikeouts. Nance, 30, is 1-1 with a 7.22 ERA (23 ER/28.2 IP) in 27 relief appearances in his major league debut season for the Cubs. Cubs moves:
