Cubs place reliever on 10-day IL, activate Adam Morgan from bereavement list |
MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Manuel Rodríguez on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation and reinstated left-handed pitcher Adam Morgan from the bereavement list.
Morgan, 31, was placed on the bereavement list, September 10. The southpaw has no record, four holds, two saves and a 3.32 ERA (8 ER/21.2 IP) in 29 relief appearances for Chicago since he was selected from Iowa, June 29. Morgan in 15 outings from July 17-August 18 posted a 0.77 ERA (1 ER/11.2 IP) with four walks and 18 strikeouts. He has limited left-handed batters to a .104 average (5-for-48), a .189 on-base percentage and a .335 OPS. In all or part of seven major league seasons with the Phillies (2015-20) and Cubs, Morgan is 13-27 with 45 holds, three saves and a 4.75 ERA (193 ER/366.0 IP) in 228 games (36 starts). He has stranded 78 of 105 inherited runners (74.3 percent). He was selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2011 draft. Morgan signed a minor league contract with the Cubs this past February. Rodríguez, 25, is 3-3 with one save, a 6.11 ERA (12 ER/17.2 IP), 12 walks and 16 strikeouts in 20 relief appearances for Chicago in first major league season.
