Cubs sign veteran outfielder David Peralta

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have signed free agent outfielder David Peralta to a minor league deal (non-roster invite) with an invitation to spring training according to multiple reports on Monday night.

With the Dodgers, Peralta hit .259 with seven homers with 55 RBIs last season.

He is recovering from surgery on his left forearm but should be ready to go sometime in March. He should be in the mix for some outfield/DH at-bats if he sticks with the team.

Being a left-handed hitter, he has some decent career splits against righties, and that is the type of hitter that the Cubs need.

For this career, the 36-year-old corner outfielder is a .279 hitter with 117 homers and 541 RBIs in 1,141 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2014-22), Tampa Bay Rays (2022) and Dodgers (2023). He posted a 115 wRC+ from 2014 through 2020.

Not sure what this means for the Cubs and Cody Bellinger.
