Craig Counsell ejected for first time as Cubs manager

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell was ejected in the fourth inning of Monday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

The first base umpire, Junior Valentine, saw Counsell complaining about a call from the dugout on a Ronald Acuna check swing and threw him out of the contest from 150 feet away.

It was Counsell's 29th ejection of his managerial career.

Throwing a manager out from so far away appeared to be a pretty soft call. Good job, Counsell, for sticking up for Shota Imanaga, who was not getting a few calls.

The very next pitch, Acuna flew out to Seiya Suzuki in right field to end the threat.

Counsell explained that he was thrown out for throwing his hands up after being warned of arguing balls and strikes.

Check it out below:

The swing by Acuna:

Shota was proud of his manager having his back.

“I'm really thankful for Craig Counsell,” Imanaga said, “for coming out and showing more emotion than I do on the swing. Regardless of if it was a swing or not, just him having my back I really appreciate.”
