Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs Jaguars

by - Correspondent -

Wide receiver DJ Moore finally had the monster performance fantasy owners had been hoping for, with five receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams continues to improve, with 304 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers last week. Chicago players are certainly becoming more appealing in fantasy football as the offense is starting to find its footing.

Caleb Williams - Start if your QB is struggling

There are only three teams on bye this week that fantasy owners share about for quarterbacks - the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Minnesota Vikings. If you have one of these quarterbacks, or your quarterback is struggling, Williams is a good person to plug in. According to ESPN, Williams is not even rostered in half the leagues.

His opponent for this Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars (8:30 a.m. / NFL Network), are surrendering the most fantasy points to quarterbacks out of any team this season. Coming off his best game of the season, there was no real concern for jet lag as the Bears arrived in London Tuesday morning. Furthermore, the Jaguars defense is tied for last in the league in turnovers generated with two.

DJ Moore - Start

Moore was an automatic start before his revenge game against the Carolina Panthers. But with that kind of performance, you cannot deny him a spot on your starting lineup. Jacksonville is allowing the highest amount of passing yards out of any team in the NFL through the first five weeks. So, Williams will be throwing the ball for a lot of yards and going after his favorite receiver in Moore. Also, Jacksonville allows the third-most passing touchdowns out of any team in the league with 10. This gives Moore too much upside to pass up.

Keenan Allen - Start if you like upside

Chicago has been very intentional about trying to get everyone involved. Moore, rookie receiver Rome Odunze, and tight end Cole Kmet have all had monster fantasy performances so far this season, but Allen has not even come close. However, speaking with the media, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron said the offense's goal is to get Allen more involved. So far, when Waldron made such a statement as he did with Kmet and running back D’Andre Swift, that player has seen more action. Also, it seems that it may take more time for chemistry to develop between him and Williams, given he missed two games. This may be the game for Allen to break out and look like the Keenan Allen of years past.

D’Andre Swift - Start, especially in a PPR League

Jacksonville is not a great matchup for Swift. They are allowed only 4.1 yards per carry, the sixth-least in the league through the first five weeks. However, they are tied for seventh in the league in the most rushing touchdowns given up with six. Chicago should be able to get the ball down the field with the passing game, which Swift has been active in. His involvement in the passing game makes him a start, even against a good rushing defense, because he will get receiving yards. This gives me added upside in points per reception (PPR) leagues and makes him a must-start.

Cole Kmet - Sit

Given the NFL's shortage of quality tight ends, Kmet may look like a start. Playing Jacksonville is not a great matchup for tight ends. However, the biggest reason to sit Kmet is because Williams will be throwing the ball to Moore, Allen, and Odunze. If Chicago makes more of an effort to get the ball to Allen, that will probably take targets away from Kmet. Also, in the one game Kmet has played against Jacksonville, he only managed to put up 18 receiving yards. That will not cut it for fantasy owners.
