Bears sign Stony Brook TE to free agent contract |
Damien Caffrey, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound tight end out of Stony Brook University, has signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Caffrey is known for his impressive blocking abilities as he only had seven catches for 78 yards last season. Caffrey began his college career at Long Island University, where he spent three years before transferring to Stony Brook. At John Glenn High School, Caffrey had an impressive senior season, with 24 receptions for 450 yards and six touchdowns. While the Bears have already signed veteran tight end Robert Tonyan to a one-year contract this offseason, Caffrey is the only rookie tight end signed by the team this draft season. He will be competing with Chase Allen and Jake Tonges, who have both spent time on the team's practice squad last season. It remains to be seen whether Caffrey will make the final roster or be relegated to the practice squad, but his signing is a significant accomplishment nonetheless. ๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ๏ธ
