Bears invite talented DB Destin Talbert to rookie minicamp |
North Dakota State defensive back Destin Talbert has been invited to try out for both the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints.
Talbert was a standout player where he primarily played cornerback but also moved around the secondary, showcasing some versatility. He was a reliable tackler and was only penalized once in almost 2,200 career defensive snaps. In his senior year at NDSU, Talbert started all 15 games at cornerback and was the fourth-leading tackler on the team. He recorded 59 total tackles with one tackle for loss and recovered a blocked field goal and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown in the season opener against Drake. He also had a 37-yard interception return late in the second quarter against Illinois State to set up a field goal that gave NDSU a 10-7 halftime lead. Talbert had a career-high seven tackles against North Dakota, and four of his six pass breakups came in the NCAA playoffs. He was part of a defensive unit that ranked seventh in the FCS, allowing just 172.4 passing yards per game. In addition to his football prowess, Talbert has also excelled academically, graduating from NDSU in December 2021 with a bachelor's degree in finance. Talbert's strong performance at NDSU and his invitation to try out for NFL rookie minicamps show that he has the potential to succeed at the pro ranks.
