Cubs trade shortstop Sergio Alcantara to Diamondbacks |
The Chicago Cubs announced that they have traded Sergio Alcantara to the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations.
The Cubs DFA'd Alcantara on Wednesday to make room for veteran reliever Mychal Givens on the 40-man roster. Alcantara appeared in 89 games with the Cubs in 2021, playing 55 games (44 starts) at shortstop, 22 (18) at second base and 3 (2) at third…hit .205 (45-for-220) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs and 17 RBI. In 2020, he played in 10 games with the Tigers and batted .143 (3-for-21) with 1 triple, 1 home run and 1 RBI. Originally signed by the D-backs as a non-drafted free agent on July 10, 2012. New #Dbacks infielder Sergio Alcantara posted 2 DRS, 6 OAA and 1.0 UZR in 55 games at shortstop last year. Impressive defensive metrics across the board.
