Cubs make several roster moves

MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Craig Kimbrel on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to September 2) with right elbow inflammation. Infielder David Bote has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa. In addition, catcher Taylor Davis was optioned to Iowa after Tuesday’s game.

Bote will be available for the Cubs tonight when they begin their four-game series at the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago’s active roster now stands at 34 players.

Bote, 26, is batting .262 (71-for-271) with 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 108 games with the Cubs this year. He has spent the entire season at the big league level save three games with Iowa, where he went 1-for-10 with a run scored in three games. Bote made his major league debut with the Cubs last year and is hitting .253 (115-for-455) with 25 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 73 RBI with a .767 OPS in 182 career games.

Kimbrel, 31, has gone 0-2 with 13 saves and a 5.68 ERA (12 ER/19.0 IP) in 21 relief appearances with the Cubs this season.

Davis, 29, has batted .167 (3-for-18) with one homer and four RBI in seven games with the Cubs this season. With Iowa this year, Davis has hit .235 (48-for-204) with four doubles, five homers and 23 RBI in 61 games.
