Edmunds thanks Bears fans for their energy at Texans game |
CHICAGO - Chicago’s game against the Houston Texans felt a little more like a home game than a primetime away game.
While the Bears would not win the game, the fans made themselves heard throughout the entire game, and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds said it was palpable on the field. “I take my hats off to the Bears fans because they travel, and we could feel that energy. They were loud. I looked at one time and I think they kind of took up our whole side where we were at. So, it was amazing to see,” Edmunds said. “Just having that support and feeding off that energy from the fans, we definitely felt it on the field, and it meant a lot to us. So, (we) got to continue to have that showing throughout the whole year because it’s going to be some tough road games that we (are) going to be playing and having that love and support from the crowd. We definitely feel that on the field.” It is normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense at the beginning of the season. However, Chicago’s defense is miles ahead of the offense. While the Bears offense struggles to move the ball down the field and get things going on the ground, the defense has been incredibly stingy. This is particularly true in the second half, as the Chicago defense has only allowed three second-half points. Those points resulted from an interception from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams; further, the field goal was 53 yards. In fact, all four field goals the Chicago defense forced against Houston were greater than 45 yards. The defense is clearly picking up where it left off last season and is one of the most dominant in the league. Edmunds attributes the talent of this defensive group to their passion and belief in each other. “I think the biggest thing is passion and belief. It’s the belief of, ‘We’re going to win it’ each game. Obviously, we’ve been down and it’s just the belief, nobody hanging their heads, nobody pointing fingers. It’s just everybody wanting to make a play for the team, wanting to make a play for their brother, for each other, and I think when you (think) about just a great team in general, that’s a great dynamic and what makes a great team?” Edmunds said. “Guys want to compete for (their) brothers, guys want to compete for the guy beside them and when you have that dynamic along with obviously great players, it’s something special. So, I think the message now is just putting our head down and working. Nobody’s going to give us anything and we don’t want it like that. So, we (are) going to work. We (are) going to put our head down and we’re going to get better for sure.” Chicago’s next game is against the Indianapolis Colts this coming Sunday (Noon / CBS). Indianapolis’ quarterback, Anthony Richardson, is coming off a game in which he had three interceptions. Thus, this game provides a good opportunity for the Bears as a whole to get back on track. The defense should be able to contain the Colts’ offense, which mustered only 10 points last week in their loss against the Green Bay Packers.
