CHICAGO - Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, also known as Iceman, struck again with his 44-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver DJ Moore in overtime against the Green Bay Packers.

“That play went in this week,” Williams said. “(Head coach) Ben (Johnson) and I (were) up watching film in his office and we just went over small details throughout the play and the next day, we came out and discussed it and hit it in practice (and) ended up working out just how we thought.”

Williams also had another incredible pass to send the game to overtime with a fourth-down touchdown pass to undrafted rookie receiver Jahdae Walker. That touchdown marked just the second catch of his NFL career.

While choosing to rely on such an inexperienced player may seem unusual to outsiders, Williams had every confidence that Walker would come down with the ball.

“Whoever’s on that field in that time, I trust them that they’re going to do their job and go make plays when the ball is in the air. Jahdae and I, when Jahdae first got here, Jahdae’s my guy. When he first got here, I allowed him to stay in my house for a little bit until he found a spot. We’ve gone indoor and worked out. Just being able to build that connection with him for moments like this and throughout the week, having belief and trusting him throughout the week, communicating with him exactly what I want, exactly where he needs to be, him having faith, him having belief and what I’m seeing, what the coaches are seeing,” Williams said. “He goes out there and makes the plays and he’s in the right spot. The ball will find him and that’s what happened on that play. I end up, obviously, going through the cadence, seeing what they were in and I didn’t second guess … I knew he was out there, but it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, Jahdae’s out there. I’m not going to.’ It was, ‘Jahdae’s out there and I’m going to throw this ball exactly where I told him I’m going to throw it in practice and he’s going to be exactly where he needs to be.’”

With Chicago’s win over the Packers coupled with the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bears have secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2020. However, they will also be looking to secure the division title against the San Francisco 49ers on Sun. Dec. 28 (7:20 p.m. / NBC). The fact that Chicago is in the playoffs after having arguably the worst season in franchise history last year is quite remarkable.

Williams credits the coaching staff with this remarkable turnaround.

“I got the best coach in the world. Let’s put in that way and we have the best coaching staff in the world and so, you put the talent with the coaches and the people that care,” Williams said. “You can strive for anything. You can reach anything. You can go after any goal and when you go out there on that football field, your belief is at an all-time high between players, between coaches and you have outcomes like this.”

After the Bears took down Green Bay, Williams made a lap around Soldier Field high-fiving the fans and thanking them for their support.

It was important to him to show the fans he appreciated them coming out to support the team, especially after he and other players called on them to show up in force for this game.

“We put it out there this week that we needed the fans, that we want the fans to be proud to be a Chicago Bear fan and so, I wanted to give my thanks and they were a big part of the game (Saturday),” Williams said. “When we go on the road, when we’re home, I want them to travel well. I want them to be here. I want them to show out. I want them to be proud and so, I wanted to go around and give my thanks to them.”
