Roster Moves: Cubs reinstate Kyle Tucker from IL, option first baseman |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today reinstated outfielder Kyle Tucker from the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the club optioned first baseman Carlos Santana to the Arizona complex.
Tucker, 28, was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sept. 6 with a left calf strain and has not played in a game since Sept. 2. Prior to his injury, he had reached base in nine of his last 10 games, including hits in eight games, since August 22, hitting .400 (16-for-40) with four doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI, a .489 OBP and a 1.289 OPS during the stretch. On the season, he has a .270 average (132-for-489) with 25 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs, 73 RBI and a .854 OPS. Santana, 39, was signed by Chicago to a one-year major league contract on Sept. 1. He is 2-for-19 (.105) with a double and two RBI in eight games with the Cubs. The Cubs play the St. Louis Cardinals today at 1:20 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM. “We were still able to get a bunch of stuff done in the cage … He said he feels great.”
