WATCH: Javier Baez, David Bote smack back-to-back home runs off former Cubs pitcher |
CHICAGO — Entering the bottom of the fourth on Monday, Milwaukee Brewers starter Brett Anderson was pitching a flawless game. The former Cubs pitcher then walked left fielder Ian Happ before giving up a two-run blast to catcher Willson Contreras. After recording two outs, he gave up back-to-back solo shots that completely altered the trajectory of his start.
Shortstop Javier Baez took Anderson deep on a sinker sent out to right field. The 379-foot opposite-field dinger was followed by a 421-foot rainmaker off the bat by second baseman David Bote that was lofted out to center field. At that point, the Cubs led 4-0 at Wrigley Field, and Baez and Bote both had their first homers of 2021 under their belts.
