Report: Cubs make offer to Travis Wood

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time since 1908 and was one of the pivotal players that contributed immensely to the 2016 title was versatile reliever Travis Wood.

It appears that there is still a chance that Wood remains a Cubs player as spring training nears.

The Cubs have made him an offer alongside the Padres and two other teams according to senior writer Ken Rosenthal. His decision will more than likely depend on if Wood wants to have an opportunity to be a starter for another team or a reliever with the World Champion Cubs.

In 2016, Wood had a 4-0 record with a 2.95 ERA with 47 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP in the regular season. During the postseason, he was 1-0 with a save, two holds and a 3.12 ERA. He was also versatile as a pinch hitter, pinch runner and can be used as a defensive replacement in left field.

Woods is 35-50 with a 4.19 as a starter in his career.

He is also one of the top slugging pitchers as he was the first reliever to hit a homer in the postseason since 1924.
