Cubs activate reliever, option righty |
The Chicago Cubs have added righty reliever Tony Barnette to the 40-man roster and activated him from the 60-day IL (right shoulder tightness) on Sunday. To make room, the team has optioned righty reliever Rowan Wick.
Barnette has a 0.00 ERA with nine strikeouts (27.9% K rate), one hit, and one walk (4.7% walk rate) in his last 8 1/3 innings pitched in Iowa. Overall, he has a 1-0 record with a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings this season. He hasn't pitched in the majors since last July 3. He has a 750K salary this season and has a club option in 2020 for $3 million. In 2018 with the Rangers, he had an impressive season with a 2.39 ERA and 0.911 WHIP in 22 appearances. In other Cubs roster news, pitcher Kendall Graveman who signed a one-year deal for a club option in 2020 was seen playing catch in the outfield on Sunday according to reports. He is still recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last July. How about Tony Barnette lately?
When Tony Barnette gets into a game, he will be the first player born in Alaska to do so for the #Cubs
