David Montgomery (5-11, 211 pounds) played three seasons in Ames for Iowa State University, finishing with 2,925 rushing yards (sixth in ISU history) and 26 rushing touchdowns (eighth in school history) while posting 15 100-yard rushing games (third best) and racking up 3,507 all-purpose yards (sixth best). He also was a threat out of the backfield, recording 71 career receptions, fifth-best all-time by a Cyclone running back, for 582 yards.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native was a Pro Football Focus First-Team All-American the past two seasons and a 2018 First-Team All-Big 12 performer. Last season he ranked third in the Big 12 and 23rd nationally in rushing yards per game (101.3), breaking the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for the second consecutive year (1,216). He recorded seven 100-yard rushing games, tying for third on ISU’s single-season list, and 13 rushing touchdowns, tying for second in the Big 12 and ninth on ISU’s season list. At one point he had a streak of four-straight 100-yard rushing games, tying for the fifth-best string in school history. Montgomery led the nation in forced missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, in 2018 for the second-straight year (99).
