As the Cubs’ pitching staff is in the midst of a major cleanse (the arrival of Craig Kimbrel, return from injury from Kyle Hendricks and Carl Edwards Jr.) here are five trade targets for the Cubs as they approach the trade deadline and the final stretch of the season. Full Story »
Definitely need a southpaw pitcher and a 2nd baseman. Schwarber, Brach, Russell, and Montgomery can go. Gonzalez can go back to the minors as far as I'm sure concerned or release him. Descalso has to pick it up or bye bye. I will always believe if Almora played more he'd produce more at the plate and he's their best defensive outfielder.
We'll just have to wait and see what Epstein and company have planned, but there will be some moves before or at the trade deadline.
Nice story Anthony. Well thought out and reasoned.
I do disagree with you on a few things. The Cubs do not need a left handed reliever, they just need a reliable reliever. Also, with the Kimbrel signing Doolittle is off their radar now.
I would like to see a consistent leadoff hitter, Almora could be that guy if they just let him play everyday. If you trade Russell or Schwarber or Almora you better get someone really high end in return like a Trevor Bauer or someone of that ilk.
I would look for the Cubs to move Happ for a role player that can come off the bench and play multiple positions like Zobrist can.
