Roster Move: Cubs trade lefty pitcher to Pirates |
The Chicago Cubs have traded lefty pitcher Eric Stout in exchange for cash considerations on Tuesday.
He has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis as he has some minor league options remaining. Stout, 29, appeared in two games for the Cubs this season, allowing 2 runs in 3.2 innings with 6 strikeouts prior to being designated for assignment on June 16. The six-foot-three, 205-pound southpaw appeared in 16 games (1 start) with Triple-A Iowa in 2022, going 2-2 with 2 saves, a 3.94 ERA (13 ER in 29.2 IP) and 48 strikeouts. Prior to this season, Stout’s only previous only Major League experience came with Kansas City, making 3 appearances for the Royals during the 2018 season. He has combined to go 23-18 with 17 saves, a 4.39 ERA (185 ER in 379.0 IP), 344 strikeouts against 161 walks in 202 appearances (19 starts) across parts of 8 Minor League seasons in the Royals (2014-18), Reds (2019), Marlins (2021) and Cubs (2022) organizations. He was a 13th-round selection by the Royals in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
