Bears running back placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

by - Senior Editor -

This is not good news for the Bears' rushing attack.

The Chicago Bears announced that they have placed veteran running back Damien Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday because of a positive test.

If Williams is vaccinated, he can rejoin the team if he remains symptom-free and has two negative tests 24 hours apart. In theory, he could rejoin the team on Sunday.

Williams appeared in five games this season, rushing for 137 yards on 32 carries. He also had ten catches for 61 yards and two total scores.

However, for planning purposes, rookie running back Khalil Herbert is now the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the rival Packers after David Montgomery's knee injury and Williams' COVID situation.

Herbert got some solid experience last week, rushing 18 times for 75 yards. Now, he will be trusted into the limelight with even more of an important role.

At Virginia Tech, Herbert led the ACC in all-purpose yards with 1,791 last year.
