Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs. Commanders

After the bye week, it is time to put your Chicago Bears players back in the lineup this week. With them playing on Monday Night Football against the Washington Commanders (7:15 p.m. / ABC), which Bears players you play could make or break your week, depending on your matchup.

Caleb Williams - Start

The Washington Commanders have been a good matchup for opposing fantasy quarterbacks so far this season, and they are also giving up a significant amount of rushing yards to opposing quarterbacks. Furthermore, Williams is a much different quarterback in head coach Ben Johnson’s offense than he was last year. He is using his legs more to scramble or make plays down the field, which adds significant fantasy value. Williams has also thrown at least one touchdown in every game this season and protects the ball. Therefore, this makes him a player with a decent floor and a high ceiling, which is especially optimal for playing Monday Night.

It should also be noted that Williams is still available in some leagues. So, if he happens to be on the waiver wire in your league, get him on your roster. He is an excellent option if your quarterback is injured, not playing well, or on bye this week.

Rome Odunze - Start

With how Odunze has started the season, he is a must-start regardless of who your other wide receivers are. The Commanders have also been rather generous to opposing receivers, as they have given up the fifth-most touchdowns to receivers. He is as reliable as anyone in the league right now, with a minimum of seven targets in every game, at least three receptions, and is the only player in the NFL with a receiving touchdown in every game. There is no reason to keep him on the bench if you have him.

For guillotine leagues, he is a player to keep an eye out for in case he becomes available. This may have happened last week when he was on bye. But if he becomes available after this week for any reason, he is definitely someone to target.

D.J. Moore - Start in 12-Team Leagues

Coming into this season, Moore was expected to be the No. 1 receiver. However, with Odunze’s emergence, Moore has taken a backseat role as the No. 2 receiver. He is getting consistent targets with exactly five in three out of four games this year. But, since week two, he has been averaging under 10 yards per reception and has only had one touchdown. Moore is probably not someone who will get you a lot of points, so he can stay on the bench in leagues with deeper rosters. However, Moore is not a bad start if you are in a 12-team league that lacks wide receiver depth.

D’Andre Swift - Sit

Washington may struggle in the pass, but they do not struggle against the run. They have allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs through the first five weeks and only three rushing touchdowns. Especially for a back that only has 71 rushing yards in the past two games combined, Swift should stay on the bench.

One caveat to this is if you are in a 12-team points per reception (PPR) league, because Swift will probably have a decent week for you in a PPR league. He has 13 total receptions this season and has 67 receiving yards in the past two weeks. If you are in that kind of league, consider starting him depending on your lineup. However, if you have a back with more upside, Swift should still stay on the bench.
