Khalil Herbert expected to miss several weeks with injury, Bears add RB

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears will have to do without one of their leaders on offense for a while.

According to multiple reports, Bears starting running back Khalil Herbert is expected to miss several weeks with a high ankle injury that he suffered in the Week 5 win against the Washington Commanders.

"We'll see. We'll see where it is," Bears head coach Matt Eberflus when asked if this is a long-term injury. "We've got to see it when he's in here with the doctors. We'll just assess it as it goes. We certainly hope it isn't. We'll see. We don't have that answer yet."

Herbert has been impressive through five games, with 51 rushes for 272 yards, ten catches for 83 yards, and a touchdown.

The Bears have added Darrynon Evans from the Dolphins' practice squad to get some immediate running back depth.

Evans was with the Bears in 2022, and he had 15 touches for 97 yards in six games.

To make matters worse, rookie standout running back Roschon Johnson is currently going through the concussion protocol.

However, veteran D'Onta Foreman is healthy and could be ready to go for the next game to give the team a spark. He has been on the inactive list as a healthy scratch for the last four games.

The Bears (1-4) host the Minnesota Vikings (1-3) next Sunday.
