The Chicago Bears are releasing former Pro-Bowl guard
Cody Whitehair on Thursday.
Whitehair was released so he would have a chance to sign with another team before free agency begins on March 11. This will save the Bears over $9 million in 2024 cap space. He made 11 starts for the Bears last season between center and guard. The 31-year-old was a former second-round pick of the Bears back in 2016 and made PFWA All-Rookie team his first season. He was going to make a base salary of $10.15 million in 2024, as he has been with the team for the last eight seasons. The Bears also announced on Thursday that they have released veteran safety Eddie Jackson. The veteran duo being released will save the team over $20.5 million in cap space, which could be used to re-sign Jaylon Johnson to a long-term deal.
