Cubs release Jake Arrieta, Willson Contreras placed on 10-day IL, more |
The Chicago Cubs announced several roster moves on Thursday including putting veteran pitcher Jake Arrieta on unconditional release waivers.
Arrieta had a dismal 5-11 record with a 6.88 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 20 starts this season. Willson Contreras has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain. Catcher Austin Romine has been activated from the 60-day injured list to take his roster spot. In addition, the Cubs have recalled right-hander Ryan Meisinger from Iowa and dfa'd lefty reliever Kyle Ryan. More to come on all of this breaking news.
