The Cubs are reportedly still looking to add to their starting rotation for the 2025 season.
Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report suggested the Cubs could sign Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler to a three-year, $45 million deal with opt-outs after the 2025 and 2026 seasons. “Walker Buehler was one of the top pitchers in MLB between 2018 and 2021, pitching to a 2.82 ERA with 4.5 times as many strikeouts as walks. He isn’t this guy anymore. And yet, maybe he could be again?” Rymer wrote in his latest article. “He doesn’t offer much in the way of certainty, but his history and his future upside make him a compelling target on a one-year deal or a long-term contract with opt-outs.” Buehler struggled this past season, finishing with a 5.38 ERA over 16 starts.
The Cubs already have Shota Imanaga, Justin Steele, Jameson Taillon and Matthew Boyd as definite starters next season.
If the Cubs add one more high-end starter to the mix, they would certainly have one of the top rotations in the National League and likely could make a playoff push in 2025.
