Bovada releases odds on Cubs' manager for 2020 season |
CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs have not even been eliminated from playoff contention, yet odds regarding who the Cubs' manager will be next year have already been formulated. Cubs skipper Joe Maddon's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and it is generally accepted that Maddon will not be retained if the Cubs fail to reach the postseason.
On Tuesday, online sportsbook Bovada released its odds for the Cubs' 2020 manager. Cubs bench coach Mark Loretta has the best odds, while Maddon has the second-best odds. Former Cubs catchers David Ross and Joe Giraradi and erstwhile Cubs infielder Mark DeRosa round out the top five, respectively. Former Boston Red Sox skipper John Farrell also made the list, as did Cleveland Indians first-base coach Sandy Alomar Jr. With the exception of DeRosa, who is an MLB Network analyst, all of those candidates have major-league coaching experience of some sort. Odds to be the @Cubs manager for the first game of the 2020 MLB regular season (Bovada):
Mark Loretta +140
Joe Maddon +225
David Ross +450
Joe Girardi +550
Mark Derosa +750
John Farrell +1500
Sandy Alomar Jr +1500
