Bears News: Mark Loretta suspended for putting on umpire's headset

by - Senior Writer -

PITTSBURGH — When a replay review did not go the Chicago Cubs' way during the contest at Wrigley Field between the Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, Cubs bench coach Mark Loretta reacted quite hilariously. Grabbing the headset that the crew chief wears while communicating with the replay center in New York, Loretta asked the person on the other end why a ruling did not turn out like he thought that it should have.

As a result, Loretta was suspended for a game, a suspension that will be served for the Cubs' matchup at PNC Park versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. MLB considered Loretta's audacious act to be inappropriate conduct, making for one of the more hilarious reasonings behind a suspension in MLB history. Loretta has been rumored to be in the running for the Cubs' managerial position, should current skipper Joe Maddon not be retained following the conclusion of the 2019 slate, so he might need to read up on what dugout acts can warrant suspensions in the offseason.
